RENÉ BENKO’S COMPANY SIGNA ON THE ROAD TO SUCCESS
René Benko, born in Innsbruck in 1977, founded the Austrian company SIGNA in 2000. In just a few years, René Benko transformed the two-man business into a top international player in the real estate and commercial sectors. SIGNA is a completely privately managed and entrepreneurially active industrial group in the areas of retail and real estate.
SIGNA Real Estate owns, develops and manages a comprehensive portfolio of exceptional real estate projects in the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) and in Italy. SIGNA Real Estate is one of the leading real estate development companies in Europe. It employs around 200 people at seven sites in Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, in four independent business units. They include SIGNA Development Selection, SIGNA Funds, SIGNA Luxury Hotels and SIGNA Prime Selection, which focuses on investment and long-term real estate holdings in prime city centre locations in Europe.
SIGNA Development Selection AG was founded in 2014 with two landmark properties, THE ICON VIENNA and PARKAPARTMENTS AM BELVEDERE. Both projects are centrally located next to the new Vienna Central Railway Station – a decided development area in the city with an unbeatable location.
THE ICON VIENNA – the new emblem at the Vienna Central Railway Station
THE ICON VIENNA not only enriches the development area of the “Vienna Central Railway Station”, but also makes a defining architectural statement in this urban business centre, consisting of three towers of different heights (88.00 m, 66.00m and 38.50 m). The towers are connected by a shared base storey area, which will provide an attractive meeting area with need-oriented retail outlets and restaurants. THE ICON VIENNA will be the only office building on-site to have direct access to Vienna’s public transportation network, including the underground and suburban railways, the mainline services of the ÖBB, Austrian Federal Railways, and the new Halle Nord (North Hall) with all of its infrastructure facilities.
“With THE ICON VIENNA, we are not just developing the face of the new district, we are also creating a new emblem at the very gates to the city, the Central Railway Station”.

The prominent SIGNA project was sold to Allianz Real Estate in the context of a “forward deal”, about one and a half years before completion (due in autumn 2018), thanks to a high letting quota of over 50 percent, a first-class tenant mix, and the low vacant property risk.
